The out-of-doors exhibit (no longer there) of the New England Aquarium in 1981. Thoughtless people would throw pennies into the pool, and the seals ingested them and became ill. One seal, "Andre", could make vocalizations that sounded like speech, and he was released annually to swim to Maine on his own. It was always news when Andre returned, or when he appeared in Maine. The trip could take days or weeks -- you never knew.
